Jan Andreas Enste was born in Muenster, North Rhine-Westphalia in 1980. In 2003 he started his studies at the Art Academy of Muenster, in the class of Prof. Andreas Koepnick and in the class of Daniele Buetti, who selected him as ‚Meisterschueler‘ in 2011 before earning his degree in Fine Arts. From 2006 to 2012 he worked together with André Stücher in their artist collective Jae Pas with exhibitions throughout Germany, Europe and North-America. In 2008 Jae Pas won the Muslim Mulliqi Prize of the National Gallery of Kosovo. Also in 2008 he founded his film production company ‚jae kunst und medien‘, mainly to produce video art for artist colleagues besides working as a fine artist. After Lejla Aliev had joined his company as a managing partner, they both decided to rename it to Juli Film in 2020. Jan Enste produced video art, music videos, fiction and documentaries for artists like Kirsten Piroth, Michael Smith, Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca, Suchan Kinoshita, Franz-Erhard Walther among many others. As a fine artist he exhibited in Europe, Middle East, Asia and North-America. From 2016 until 2023 he taught film and video art as a head of the workshop at the Academy of Fine Arts Muenster. He lives and works in Berlin and Athens, Greece.
